Southern Shipping Services, is looking to fill the post of Chief Accountant.

The job holder will be responsible for the preparation of all Kenya reporting and management information for the company and shall develop and initiate system improvements, initiating change where required to enable optimal performance.

The key responsibilities will be:

  • Preparing and presenting monthly management accounts
  • Preparing the quarterly forecast and annual budget
  • Handling vessel accounts and liaising with vessel owners.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the entities nominal ledger
  • Cash management, reporting and forecasting for the Company
  • Enhancing current management information to reflect changing needs of management and to drive the business forward
  • Implementation and maintenance of the accounting system
  • Assisting in improving, developing and monitoring controls
  • Producing and/or analysing detailed product costing and margin analysis

Additional Responsibilities

  • Promoting the Company’s Health and Safety policies, and communicate effective awareness of the risks and hazards to all personnel and maintain controls necessary for their safety and that of others.
  • Performing all duties in accordance with the Company’s Quality Procedures and work Instructions in order to deliver and maintain the highest standards of quality for all products and services.
  • Ad hoc duties as reasonably required from time to time.


The ideal candidate will be CPA/ACCA qualified with a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role. You will have strong technical accounting skills and be able to manage financial reporting requirements in a complex corporate structure. You will also have demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to present financial information to a wide audience.
